Health Tip #4 - Beware of Drinking During Pregnancy

So we have all heard the rule: No Alcohol Consumption During Pregnancy. Well as of today a study has been released by the UK saying minimal drinking during pregnancy is actually okay. The University College London released the study saying,

"Children born to mothers who drank up to 1–2 drinks per week or per occasion during pregnancy were not at increased risk of clinically relevant behavioural difficulties or cognitive deficits compared with children of abstinent mothers. Heavy drinking during pregnancy appears to be associated with behavioural problems and cognitive deficits in offspring at age 3 years whereas light drinking does not."

I'm not buying into this. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is a serious disease affecting 1 out of every 100 people in America and Europe. It's the main cause of intellectual disability in the United States and Canada. The medical costs for a FAS patient can reach up to $800,000!! And they're actually encouraging drinking while pregnancy.

Here's what I think...alcohol isn't good for an adult, and it's especially not good for the fetus. Would you give a newborn or your child alcohol?? No it's not accepted! So why would they encourage it for your underdeveloped fetus?? That's so contradictory. Alcohol affects everyone differently, some people can drink it and be okay but some people get really sick, they're allergic, and they just cannot handle the alcohol in their system! And no mother on this earth will be able to tell if their child can or cannot process alcohol so why risk it? Why risk the chance that your baby could become one of 100 children affected by FAS??!! Why would you risk your baby having any of the following:

* be small for their age
* have a small head
* have facial abnormalities
* have problems with their heart or other vital organs
* be restless and have difficulty sleeping
* problems with hearing and vision
* high activity levels
* problems learning in school
* difficulty with speech
* difficulty adjusting to changes in routine
* social problems
* eating and sleeping problems
* difficulty following directions
* poor memory
* poor coordination

I rest my case the rest is up to you!

Stay healthy and take it easy!
